Move Like Creatures: it’s a kind of magic
What to expect from a rock band from Southern California?
If you said fun, you’re right. But if you also said attitude, you got it right twice. Without giving up on well-crafted riffs, Move Like Creatures makes a point of giving a critical edge to their lyrics. The recent single “Daggers”, for example, is the band’s reflection on superficial relationships, a game that is usually played under the excruciating California sun.
The first time I heard this single, two things caught my attention: The Foals kind of sound with a prominent bass, and vocalist Nancy Bombard (save the name) endowed with unparalleled charisma and and a vigorous timbre. Completing the band’s current lineup are drummer Melissa Koziel and guitarist Ryan Reynolds. The band already has a great EP under its belt: “Space Case”, recorded with producer/engineer Ethan Kaufmann (Ryan Cabrera, Avril Lavigne, Wild Party).
Move Like Creatures is moving towards becoming a solid name in the mainstream alongside artists like Paramore. The trio already has something very difficult and appreciated: chemistry. “It felt like magic the first time we all got together,” says frontwoman Nancy Bombard. “We were an instant family“. Well, Freddie Mercury was right when he sang: “It’s a kinda of magic“.
