Post Death Soundtrack outside the box

If I could rescue just one of the bands responsible for spreading the sound known as grunge across the planet in its original formation, it wouldn’t be Nirvana, but Alice in Chains. After all, in my opinion, only Layne’s nauseating vocals could immediately give me the feeling of walking through mud, in an inhospitable region. One of the feelings that the music made in Seattle gave us: desolation and despair.

But after I heard this wonderful “Veil Lifter” from Post Death Soundtrack, I was once again able to feel what I felt when I played a track like “Man in the box” or “Would?”. Who would have thought it would come from Canada, a country that was once laughed at in South Park for gifting the world with the music of Bryan Adams, one of the coolest and most unapologetically grunge albums – without sounding dated – of this year?

Vancouver-based psychedelic doom grunge duo Post Death Soundtrack is basically Jon Ireson and Stephen Moore. “Veil Lifter” is their fourth (!) full-length release, with 10 well produced songs (and an intro). A fine mix between Grunge and Doom. It’s organic, it’s heavy, it’s filthy. It’s rock and roll made by people who understands rock and roll, for people who lives by it. Like their release said: “this fresh ‘doom grunge’ approach is driven by those who first inspired them – Alice in Chains, Black Sabbath, Nirvana, and The Stooges, as well as artists who are redefining heavy music for a new age – Russian Circles, Windhand, Queens of the Stone Age and YOB“.
