Forget Barbie: here comes Edie Yvonne
How about taking advantage of the pink wave of the Barbie movie to talk about a young woman fascinated by fashion and who, at just 14 years old, wrote a single that will certainly leave many macho men out there discredited? Straight from Los Angeles, we have the sensational singer/actress Eddie Yvonne, who has just released the single “In the rain” while having another one in the works: “On your mind”.
And don’t go thinking she’s too young to talk about her daily dramas in song lyrics, because, inspired by the likes of Alanis Morissette, she has no problem expurgating failed relationships in the pop music format. That’s what makes the new singles something more than special. They’re unique, and, of course, really fun.
About “In the rain”
The newest singer/songwriter on the market wrote “In the rain” during a thunderstorm. In an interview with Naluda Magazine, Edie says that the inspiration came right after an argument with her loved one. “Processing the words, my responses, the fears projected onto me, the resentments, and trying to sit with those feelings when it’s someone you truly care about. I was trying to understand the emotions and hoping the song could provide some healing down the road “, she recalls.
As for the sound you’ll find, don’t be fooled by the pink cover and Edie’s traditional “pin-up” gesture. The girl is a full-fledged singer-songwriter, offering a folk ballad in the style of another very talented young female artist: Courtney Barnett. What could be a nuisance, her naturally thin voice due to her young age, ends up being circumvented by Edie’s vocal proficiency. Not to mention the complete mastery of the melody.
“In the rain” is as delightful to listen to as the movie Barbie is to watch. Perhaps this is the most obvious connection that I wanted to state in this (pink) review.
