Faded Rose: blooming in New York City

Faded Rose: blooming in New York City

One of the most impactful singles of the year in terms of alternative rock had to come from there, straight from New York, the city of dreams. I’m talking about “In the first place” by Faded Rose which, with tender touches of alt.country, presents the singer who gives the band its name, Rosie at her best: a melancholic, high-range vocal.

Drawing influence from artists like Stevie Nicks, Alanis, Cowboy Junkies and 10.000 Maniacs, Faded Rose is a breath of fresh air in the midst of a genre naturally dominated by men. Even so, leader Rosie is the only woman in the band, who also brings Charles Costa on keys, lead guitar, and mandolin, Tom McDermott on rhythm guitar, Gary Ljungquist on bass, and Pete Pellegri on drums.

I think rock music has historically been a male dominated genre, but there have been so many amazing female artists who broke the mold and paved the way for other females in the genre (…)

Rosie

Rosie released her debut album, “Don’t Say,” in 2021 which was well received. Her tracks “Don’t Say” and song “Judgment Day” were featured on various radio stations across the U.S, Canada, and Europe, as well as popular editorial playlists and podcasts across the globe. The single “In the first place” was released last june, and is now available now on all streaming platforms.

2 6 Things about Faded Rose

RC – Hi there, Rose, how is it going? Are you in NY right now?

FR Things are going well! Yes, we are in New York right now.

RC – “In the first place” is probably one of the best songs I’ve heard this year. It has that 90’s vibe but also brings some kind of “Wet Leg” funny tricks. How did you come up with the idea of this single?

FRI wanted to put out something fun with positive energy. The whole idea behind this song is to not take yourself too seriously and to know that whatever happens, you’re going to be ok.

RC- You are the only woman in your band. Do you think, especially because of bands like Wet Leg, people are more open to listen bands with front/women these days?

FRI think rock music has historically been a male dominated genre, but there have been so many amazing female artists who broke the mold and paved the way for other females in the genre, so I think it’s likely you’ll see a lot more female fronted bands get the attention they deserve.

RC- How’s Faded Rose agenda these days? By the way, how’s the relation between Faded Rose and their fanbase?

FRWe just had a shoe at Towne Crier in Beacon, NY and are scheduled to play Dary’s House Club in January. Fans can expect new music and I may have a surpise or two up my sleeve. Though I am not the best at keeping up with social media, I do try and respond to messages as quickly as I can.

RC- You seem to have some vast music knowledge. Does Brazil rings any bells for you in terms of good music? Could you name some?

FR – I appreciate music from all over the world and am always open to hearing new songs and discovering different artists.

RC – Do you intend to release “In the first place” on some new album or EP? What could we expect considering Faded Rose’s releases?

FRWe are working on an EP and are hoping to have it complete within the next few months, but will most likely release another single before the end of the year. This new EP is definitely a lot edgier than the last and brings a different energy. We are excited to share!
