Death by Piano and the intense sound of orgasm
“Wow.” What I mean to say is: Wow! The title of New York band Death By Piano‘s latest EP couldn’t better express the feeling of seeing and hearing these Brooklyn musicians for the first time. Forget Lana Del Rey and her velvety voice, as well as Billie Eilish’s ASMR whispers. What you are about to experience here is some of the most sensual music and performances you will ever know. Because Death By Piano’s music is pretty close to having an orgasm.
The new ep brings six darkwave songs about commitment, betrayal, loss, grief, and love. Big beats, soaring synths, and aching strings tell the tale. The tunes were a collaboration between the singer KALEN & Tom Marsh (Lana Del Rey). The visual world is being built by Robert Lester. KALEN is the one who leads DBP in collabn with some of BK’s best producers & visual artists.
Yes, Kalen is the name behind this show that transcends music, including art, theater, video and lighting. But the best of all – besides the kind of music that follows the excellent underground soundtrack of “Drive” – is certainly the choreography. “Trust” is one of the tracks of the new EP, and it seems to have been made especially for the stage, taking into account its hypnotic beat and the duo of female voices that goes through your ears straight to the heart.
To me, listening to Death By Piano is remembering that we are alive – and how it is to feel all our senses at once. So much better if it takes place in a performance by one of the most integral and promising bands on the global darkwave scene. Death By Piano is alive, more than ever.
