Evan Dando in Brazil – Into his Arms
Continuing our “saga” of Evan Dando in Brazil, this time we are going to an apparently very fun “ride” by the Lemonheads frontman at Roger Marx Tatoo’s studio in São Paulo. Anyone who’s been to the show or seen pictures of Evan recently has probably noticed that the guy is into a tattoo. But it’s not just any tattoo: sensitive as he is, Evan gives preference to figures and words that are part of his affective memory. As was the case with the artworks chosen for this ride right at the beginning of his “home” in the north of São Paulo: one, the name of his girlfriend-fiancée Antônia in her own handwriting, another, the logo of a chain of Boston Pharmaceutical Convenience (Cumberland Farms), a kind of CVS. Both made in the arms.

According to tattoo artist Roger, a friend of our dear Lirinha Morini (do you remember him from the first part of our saga?), he met Evan when he helped the “roadie of the stars” to organize sound equipment in Serra da Cantareira. “When I mentioned to Evan and the staff that I was a tattoo artist, they instantly became interested in doing something, Evan even already had some ideas in mind, the next day he and his wife, Antonia, came to tattoo in my studio“, remembers Roger , whose clients include none other than Otto, Sebastian and Juliana da Francisco El Hombre, Liniker, Lynn da Quedrada, Pit Passarell, Iggor Cavalera, Gastão Moreira, Scott from Face to Face, Zakk from Savatage, Alexi Laiho (RIP ) of Children of Bodon, Tracii Guns, all of Faster Pussycat, Maya and Allison of The Donnas, two Crucified Barbaras and Phil Anselmo lead singer of Pantera. “Phil was before he was admittedly a Nazi, and I almost tattooed Al from Ministry but his wife wouldn’t let me,” he adds.
About the unique experience of tattooing Evan, Roger comments: “He arrived with the guitar and was singing/playing the whole time.. he didn’t feel pain or complain. It was a fun experience with the right to play ‘Into your Arms’ by Lemonheads just for me (and his wife, Antonia) while we did the backing vocals“, laughs Roger, who also considers himself a legit Lemonheads fan for a long time. “For me it is an honor to tattoo people I admire. Evan is one of them. Lemonheads is one of those bands that I have always followed since I was a teenager and, from now on, when I see something from them in the future I will know that I left my mark there“, he concludes, getting ready to also check out the Brazilian tour that is being scheduled for March.
