Skye Holland and the best way to deal with anxiety
When it comes to Skye Holland, nothing is what it seems. I bet you expect another pop singer with vocals transformed by sound tools on the internet, right? Wrong. She is as natural as can be, and recently even faced the arduous task of reinterpreting the 1985 song: “Running up that hill (a deal with God)” by Kate Bush….and it was successful, adding a very welcome pop tone to the most played composition of the year. Take a brief look:
For starters, it’s impossible to say where this Japanese, Canadian and Dutch singer based in Netherlands actually comes from, having even participated in a Japanese girl band (some might say she doesn’t look like japanese at all, btw). You could say that she is a mix of all these diverse cultures, which makes her music even more special. Nor do you think that Skye, like other artists of her generation, is limited to singing about heartbreak: most of her singles bring up important issues, such as mental health, recovery and self-esteem, as is the case with the single highlighted in this article: “Dear, Anxiety”, in which she reports the experience of living with this illness that many classify as an elephant pressed on the chest.
In the song, Skye plays a sensitive subject in a smooth way, which makes us almost immediately identify with what she herself is feeling. That is: it is not because she is in showbizz that she ceases to be “people like us”. After all, having such a promissing young artist who influences so many people online talking about a topic like anxiety on TikTok, even if in a sweet way, is very important for new generations to seek help, such as therapy, to be able to face their own fears and contained desires. But, right now, let’s just dance to the music she’s offering!
